GAIL INDIAN SPEEDSTAR

GAIL (India) Limited under its CSR initiative appointed Anglian Medal Hunt Company Limited as its technical partner to launch a collaborative venture called GAIL Indian Speedstar. The objective of this initiative is to unearth a pool of promising and talented sprint athletes who could in the future be guided towards sporting success and would potentially bring Olympic glory to the nation. The remotest and unexplored corners of India have come under the purview of GAIL Indian Speedstar. Three seasons of this initiative collectively have witnessed a participation of 2,90,000+ in 278 districts over 29 states and 5 Union Territories. Trials were conducted in 100m, 200m and 400m categories in a three tier selection process in the age groups of 11-14 years and 15-17 years.

The finals of GAIL Indian Speedstar Season 3 were held on 22nd February 2018 at the Thyagraj Stadium, New Delhi where the Honourable Minister of State (I/C) Youth Affairs and Sports, Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was the Chief Guest.

The athletes are guided by a National Selection Committee which is headed by the legendary Ms. PT Usha and also includes Mr. Sriram Singh, Ms. Rachita Mistry, Ms. Anuradha Biswal, Ms. Kavita Raut. 14 exceptionally gifted and promising athletes from Season 1 and 2 have been identified who with the correct guidance and training can achieve great feats at the International level. Athletes selected under the programme have been provided support in the form of coaching, physiotherapy, nutrition, sports biomechanics, kit and equipment etc. Our athletes were also sent for an International training camp at the Racers Track Club, Kingston, Jamaica, where they got to train with Olympic medalists such as Yohan Blake and Warren Wier.
